Beauty Favourites May 2014

Hello beautiful people! These are PA’s beauty favourites from May 2014.

1. Kat Von D Everlasting Blush Bellisima: I picked this up from Sephora on my recent trip to US. The MUA who was helping me with my Sephora shopping was wearing a very pretty shade of blush on her cheeks. Shamelessly I asked her about it; and that’s how I ended up buying this gorgeous blush. I am having a bit of regret now as I seriously think I should have bought more of Kat Von D blushes; because this blush is SO GOOD. It says, everlasting face shaper blush – 24 hour wear. The maximum time I wear my blush is 10-12 hours. And you know what, it lasts! I am always skeptical of blushes which claim to be 24 hour wear as most of them don’t live up to their claims. But this one, it sure is long lasting. On the multiple occasions I have worn it, I did not need to retouch or reapply as it did not fade. It is well pigmented, which is a great plus. Bellisima is a pretty coral shade; more towards peachy pink. It is somewhat close to Nars Orgasm, but without the shimmer, which I think is pretty good for everyday wear. Right colour + great staying power = perfect combo. Love it!

2. Lancome Le Crayon Kohl Noir: I have sensitive eyes and I am always extra cautious with any kind of eye makeup products. This one surely doesn’t disappoint. It has never caused me any irritation; easy to apply {I don’t have to press it}, highly pigmented and has an intense colour. It is a creamy smooth pencil which is neither too hard nor too soft and glides smoothly. Certainly, my favourite.

3. Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero Smudge Lengthening Mascara: I have been using this mascara for a couple of years now and is definitely my Holy Grail product. It does not smudge of fade and gets me through the day. It is super black, has a slim easy to manoeuvre wand. It does not create an over loaded mascara look, which for me is really great for everyday use. It gives a natural finish to my lashes and does a good job of lengthening it. It is great for everyday natural looking makeup – like the no makeup, makeup look. Highly recommend for a lasting, no smudge mascara that is easy to take off as well. It does not make the lashes heavy unlike a lot of mascaras. I am a fan of makeup products that don’t feel weighty. This is one of them. I wear contact lenses at time and this has never given me any problem, so far. This is the first mascara I ever started using, and have stuck to it since then as it has never given me any problems. I often listen to a lot of people talk of flake-y or smudge-y mascara down their cheekbones. Oh baby, this doesn’t! {PS: I have even cried a bit at times with this mascara on. Didn’t smudge. But to my credit, I prevent myself when I have it on; thinking, why waste an expensive mascara by crying!} I LOVE this mascara.

4. Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in 510 I Pink I Can: The Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure range of polishes has an all-in-one formula and supposed to be a base coat, strengthener,  growth treatment, colour, top coat, chip-resistance and a gel finish all in 1 bottle. I Pink I Can is a lovely bright bubble-gum pink colour and very pretty. It has a nice creamy glossy finish and does not have any shimmer or glitter in it. It does not take much time to dry out and I get full opacity in two coats. I am a one coat person usually, and I like the way it looks after one coat as well. Good thing is, it doesn’t chip for days.

5. Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Organic Deodorant: Starting 2014, I made a conscious decision to gradually move towards organic, toxin free products – one step at a time. The first thing I decided to change was my deodorant/ antiperspirant routine. After crowd-sourcing recommendations and reading a couple of good reviews online, I hopped over to my nearest Priceline and took the plunge. Got myself this Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Organic Deodorant barely days before heading for a month-long travel to NZ + USA. It was a calculated risk I took by taking this small bottle of 60ml and expecting it to last a month. To be on the safer side, I took a bottle of another deodorant. When you are on the go for more than a month, you do need backups. I liked the fact that it is a small bottle and I can place in in the corner of my hand bag without worrying about adding a chunk of excess weight on my arms. I started using it a few days before starting my travels just to get used to it. To be frank, it does take a bit of time to get used to the smell of tea tree. But it does feel nice and fresh. Honestly, yes. Eventually it lasted me for a much longer time after I even came back from my trip. I did not even end up using my backup. Now, isn’t that amazing! So, TAS HQ gives it a nod of approval. I now call it my handy + trusty + compact travel essential. Icing on the cake – it is organic and aluminium free.
