Well, if you a female expat you may have already understood what I am trying to say…
When you move to a new city or a new country, your main concerns would be the usual logistical and operational factors – all related to might big words of the fancier kinds like ‘settling in’ and the likes.
But if you are a woman, secretly at the back of your mind you may be more worried about finding that perfect place to get your eyebrows shaped in the new city/country!
Each one of us dreads that moment when we land into that new salon and be at the mercy of unknown hands trying to shape our precious little eyebrows.
What if the shape doesn’t come out right?
What if its thinner… I may have to wait weeks before it grows back again?
What if the Arch of the eyebrow is just not right?
What if the new-unknown-hands hurt me and cause those silly bruises around the brows?
What if the result makes me look like an alien?!!!
Haven’t we all had these concerns at some point of time in our life!
I secretly envy people who don’t need to shape their brows and have naturally perfect eyebrows
I get jitters every time I enter a never-tried-before salon to get my eyebrows done…
It also depends on what kind of eyebrow shaping service the said salon provides – waxing, threading, tweezing and some use funky razors as well.
Over here in Sydney, salons also offer Eyebrow ‘tidy’ services in addition to ‘shaping’.
While I was in India, it was always ‘threading’ the brows. I didn’t know of any other way to get the brows shaped.
When I came to Sydney, I literally got a heart attack when the only salons I could find were the ones which used wax (hot/cold) to shape the eyebrows. The thought of wax near my eyes literally made me procrastinate getting the eyebrow-shaping done for weeks. The result – there I was with bushy eyebrows, me being beyond recognition!
Ultimately I had to take that ‘big’ decision to either get it waxed or to go au-natural.
Well, I took the plunge – and experimented with eyebrow waxing! And let me tell you – it didn’t disappoint me.
Now, having tried eyebrow waxing many times since I moved to Sydney, I have come to the conclusion that now I prefer eyebrow waxing over threading. Waxing is less painful than threading, as per my experience.
Of recently I did find a local Indian Salon who does Eyebrow Threading, the result was good enough but I think I prefer Eyebrow Waxing over Threading now.
My current favorite salons for Eyebrow Shaping:
- Designer Eyebrows by Samantha – Located in Parramatta, Sydney, NSW
Till date this has been my ultimate favorite. Samantha does an initial consultation to understand our expectations and thereby decides the final shape of the brow on the basis of face structure, the required arch, the gap between the brows, whether you wear glasses or not, your dress sense etc.
She uses a peel-off wax for shaping and later removes the few odd strands of hair by using a tweezer. The entire process is quite gentle and you hardly feel a thing.
My best eyebrow shapes till date have been coz of her
- The Waxing Divas – Bondi & Parramatta, Sydney, NSW
Much cheaper and economical. They use a wax-and-strip method, in addition to tweezing off the stray strands.
I have also heard of Browbars. Have you ever tried them out? Which method do you prefer for eyebrow shaping? Waxing, Threading, Tweezing or do you prefer a razor? Or some other method? Or are you bestowed with naturally perfect eyebrows? Do you get the shaping done in a salon or Do-It-Yourself?
If you live in Sydney, which salon do you go to for Eyebrow Shaping?
