Recently I was invited to The Cottage Winter Menu Launch. Designed by the very accomplished Luchetti Krelle (of Momofuku Seiobo, Hinky Dinks and Sake fame), this Balmain based charming wine bar and restaurant has a very warm and friendly vibe which complements Balmain’s rustic heritage and feels like you have stepped right inside grandma’s farmhouse with its very interesting eclectic mix of vintage furniture and pictures.
Lovely courtyard for alfresco dining.
Popular Sydney bloggers, media and celebrities including PSY impersonator Teddy Kim, regular TV fashion commentator Sarah Stavrow from The Fashion Institute, Caroline Groth and former Popstars contestant Arrnott Olssen attended the winter menu launch party.
As we entered this charming place, we were greeted by some relaxing laid back tunes from pop rock musician Dom Cotton along with tasters and delicious cocktails from the new winter menu.
Head Chef Ellen Young created a menu full of comforting and wholesome dishes to help warm up and beat the winter blues. Everything was so so good!
Roasted cauliflower with pulled lamb shoulder, raisins and vinaigrette. The nutty cauliflower coupled with the pulled lamb which was so tender. So delicious. So good!
Maple & cider beef brisket with celeriac crisp and horseradish cream. So perfect!
Arancini of tomato, smoked mozzarella and parmesan. Delicious vegetarian bites.
Mushrooms stuffed with barley, dried fruit, herbs and chevre.
Yellowfin tuna tartare with beetroot relish, apple, pickled fennel, dukkah. I am still dreaming about these nibbles. They were so so good!
When your cocktails are made by someone so cute, you don’t refuse!
Speyside Sour – a clever blend of Glenfiddich 12 year and ginger liqueur lengthened with lemon juice, honey water and finished with orange bitters. So addictive!
The Sloe Cuban – an interesting twist on the mojito, including Plymouth sloe gin shaken with pressed mint and lime and charged with soda.
Lemon & Basil Gimlet consisting of Citron vodka & limoncello shaken with fresh basil, lemon and lime.
An extensive selection of the finest cheeses from UK, France, Spain and Italy. So perfect!
An endless supply of freshly shucked oysters served at the oyster bar. Free flowing goodness galore!
Fantastic evening with great cocktails and great food.
