SoCal Neutral Bay

SoCal has been a favourite of mine ever since I savoured some delicious fare at a Sony event hosted here.

Menu for the evening – bring it on!

The event was an intimate Cali-inspired sit-down dinner hosted by Head Chef Zac Smart and Bar Manager Joe Worthington.

All the dishes were expertly paired with matching beverages, and Zac and Joe talked through each dish and drink to us throughout the night.

Corn Chips with Guacamole and salsas – Can I ever have enough of this!

We were greeted and brought to the welcoming heated terrace, where we nibbled on corn chips with guacamole and salsas and sipped on classic margarita cocktails.

Classic Margarita Carafes – perfect start to the evening.

Before dinner was served, we gathered around Joe Worthington at his mobile bar for a ‘super amazing mystery’ interactive cocktail experience.

Joe’s Super Amazing Mystery Interactive Cocktail Experience – Look at him! He sure knows his craft.

Joe whipped up egg whites and burst citrus smells from peeled oranges into the air while demonstrating how to make his tequila based cocktail concoction.

Crab and Sopressatta Tostadas – yummy nibbles. So good!

After the demonstration, we were seated for our first course of crab and sopressatta tostadas, which was delivered personally by Head Chef Zac Smart.

As we settled in for the night, dishes rolled out from the kitchen including chicken sliders – marinated chicken breast with avocado and chorizo; which was paired with Frisco Pisco cocktails – chilli-infused Pisco, egg white, elderflower liqueur, lime, sugar and muddled cucumber.

The third course was seared salmon with broccolini, chilli and coriander salsa verde paired with Dry Creek, Fume Blanc, Sonoma white wine.

Slow Roasted Lamb Shoulder with faro, freekeh, quinoa and kale – Very addictive. A must have. One of my favourites!

Next on the menu was the slow roasted lamb shoulder with faro, freekah, quinoa and kale paired with a glass of Bliss Pinot Noir; followed by Scotch fillet with chimmichurri and mushroom salad served with Dry Creek ‘Heritage’ Zinfandel, Sonoma.

Mushroom Salad – A salad so good, you can definitely have more of it.

To finish off the night, and after a range of savoury dishes, SoCal impressed us with their chocolate, pistachio and tequila brownie with chipotle cream; served with a salted caramel espresso martini that consisted of Ketel One, Galliano Ristretto, salted caramel and espresso with honeycomb.

Salted Espresso Martini  – Ketel One, Galliano Ristretto, salted caramel and espresso with honeycomb – I am calling it the Martini with a Story. And, the story goes such that some of my readers saw me having this via my instagram; went there , got ADDICTED to it and emailed to thank me for this gorgeousness. Virtual high-five to all you wonderful people!

SoCal has a laid back, Southern Californian sandy vibe and feel, and with its quality food and drinks, matched with exceptional service, the restaurant is a winning formula in the hot spot area of Neutral Bay. Definitely worth revisiting. Great food, amazing atmosphere and a fantastic cocktail menu.Make sure you get their sliders, slow roasted lamb shoulder and the espresso martini {if you are an espresso person}.  The staff is super amazing and friendly.

Stop living in a cave and visit this place. You won’t regret it.
